Writer's Block: Hair of the Dog

In advance of holiday excesses, let's review cures for the common hangover. Coffee, cheeseburgers, raw eggs, lemons and worcestershire sauce—what works? What doesn't?

View 488 Answers

I've heard, and it's been medically proven, that drinking as much water as possible is the best thing. Boring I know, and who would've thought water could cure (or even prevent) a hangover? But it makes sense when you think about how alcohol dehydrates you. If you're dehydrated, what do you do? Drink water!

Writer's Block: Meat Cake

Happy birthday, Humane Society of the United States! A staffer here at LJ loves her dog so much that she made her a meat cake for her birthday. What's the most elaborate (and possibly not justifiable to non-pet owners) thing you've ever done for your pet?

View 217 Answers

Turned the heater on, even though I wasn't cold, because one of my cats got caught out in the rain and came home looking very sorry for himself.

That's about as elaborate as it gets, sorry, pretty boring aren't I??

Bigfoot, the Yeti, the Loch Ness Monster, el chupacabra—what is your favorite creature that may or may not exist?

The "Lithgow Panther". Apparently (and there have been recent sightings and reports to support it) there are one or more large black "cats" in the Blue Mountains and Lithgow areas of NSW, Australia. One theory is that they're offspring of some panthers that were released (accidentally or intentionally we don't know) from a circus years ago.

One thing though, I never went out by myself at night or let my cat roam at night when I was living in the Mountains. Just in case!

Birth announcement! (No, not mine!)

My friend who went a week overdue with her baby finally gave birth to a little girl in the early hours of Tuesday morning! She named her new baby Jenaya Catherine :) I'm absolutely buffed for the new mum and dad (first time parents) as they had trouble trying to conceive because of Amy's polycystic ovaries.

Congratulations Amy and Wayne, and welcome Jenaya!!!!

( I hope to be posting news of my own baby's arrival in the next few weeks....watch this space!)

I used to wear a silver ring, but on our first Valentines together I go it engraved for my partner with the words "Love is eternal" and a heart. I gave it to him as well as a bunch of his favourite flowers: purple orchids. He still wears the ring (8 years later) on a chain around his neck, and I later found out that my grandmother's wedding ring was engraved with the same sentiment I had engraved on our ring :)

Letter to my Life

Dear me,

Please start getting up at a decent hour. The way you sleep in all the time is really stuffing up my body clock and it's getting to the stage where staying awake during the day is becoming harder and harder.

Also, please start eating more regularly. We are trying to grow a baby here! No, that doesn't include regular snacking on Tim Tams and gummi worms. Cravings are understandable, but going to McDonalds three times last week is bordering on ridiculous.

What's this wearing PJ's until midday thing all about? I know you like to relax, but when friends show up and you're still padding around in flannelette, it's embarrassing!

Be nicer to the cats. They're only trying to be friendly when they're nudging you with their head, and back to the sleeping in thing, it's really not asking too much to get up at 7am to feed them and let them out for the day. You'd be doing us both a favour if you started running on kitty time.

Don't blame your husband for spending all the money when you do exactly the same thing given half the chance. I'm sure you noticed how quickly that massive pay you got the other week just disappeared in a flash. But thank you for not buying those shoes I noticed you eyeing off. Well done!

When the washing is dry, bring it in. It gets stiff if you leave it out for more than a few days and loses that freshly washed smell, not to mention it was nearly dry when it rained but you couldn't be bothered getting it as the weather turned bad.

Thanks!

Me

Yeah I'm in a weird mood today, and felt like posting something silly. It's one of those days where you feel at a loose end about what exactly you should be doing. Do I go out? Stay at home and watch tv? Cook lunch or grab an instant noodles? In the above letter to myself I mentioned some things that I've been doing lately that's annoying me and starting to become bad habits, so I thought I'd write it down so I can look back and think about it all. By the way, the job I've got nursing at the local nursing home? Totally in love with it! Granted longer shifts in the dementia wing leave alot to be desired but hey, it's work, and I'm finally doing what I studied so hard for 18 months ago.

Anyhoo, I'm going to go put some warmer clothes on. The snow they've been predicting feels like it's going to arrive soon!

My new LJ Community!

Well, I finally did it. I made my very own LJ Community!

It's called mental_parents and is for those who are parents who suffer with mental illness. I hope to get heaps of members and make it a really supportive site, with advice available, links and thoughts for the week for people to post about.

Please check it out, and even if neither you or anyone you know has a mental health issue, become a member and keep up to date as I help heal not only myself, but other people out there like me who struggle with mental illness.

HATCHING on SouCon

Yay! After so much work, stressing, and late nights, we finally had our hatching on SouCon :)

This was Eliaryth's first clutch, and the proud clutch-papa was Z'vin's Zhenoth. Hatching log here: http://southern.silvertree.org/

Go to 'Logs' then 'Hatchings' and click on 'Eliaryth and Zhenoth'

I'd like to thank all of you who worked so hard to make this Hatching happen. In particular, Z'vin and Tarianel. I could never have done it without you two, you were absolutely fabulous. I can't thank you enough! And Alina, without your steadying and calming support, I would have gone mad a long time ago. THANK YOU everyone!

And, more good news to come next week as my character on SouCon, Chamynda, has her first baby!

The Disenchantment Project

OK everyone, I simply MUST share this with you.

I recently got back in contact with my brother, who has now cut his debut album and is selling them like hotcakes wherever he goes. Linkage here:  http://www.myspace.com/disenchantmentproject

I have to say, I've downloaded the four songs available on the site and I'm very impressed. And I'm not just saying that because it's my brother's 'baby' :)

Take a look guys, and listen, I think the songs are really really good. The band even have gotten interest from one of the biggest music magazines in the country 'Drum Media'.

My little brother went and growed up and got to be successful! *grin*

Dragon Flight!

Yup, that's right! My gold dragon on SouCon MUSH, Eliaryth, went up in her maiden flight today :)

It was better attended than I could have hoped for, thanks to those from Ierne who helped flesh out the chasers! Not to mention our wonderful Southern players who did a great job either chasing or NPC chasing. In the end, Zhenoth and Z'vin took the prize! It was a really hard choice, but I had some help from a friend 'in the know' ;)

I had loads of fun, and this means Search is well and truly underway. *crosses fingers it goes smoothly*

The log is up at http://southern.silvertree.org/logs/flight/eliarythflight1.html

My first entry. Hmmf.

Well I finally did it. It's like that song, 'All my friends are getting married.' (They are, in fact.) It was like that, all my friends have live journals. So, why not? Today I'm doing what I've been doing the last four weeks. Waiting for my appointment with the surgeon who operated on me. Hopefully he'll tell me the surgery worked, and I'll be able to take off the splint that has been restricting my movement and ability to shower properly. I've been sitting in a chair in the shower, bending to the side to get the jet on my head. Not the most comfortable way of getting clean :P Anyway, it's at least given me the chance to catch up on some SouCon MUSH work I"ve been trying to do for ages. Having Impreseed gold Eliaryth last year, I have certain obligations to the game that have been suffering while I get my act together. Nevermind, it's getting done now. And we're in Search again! Yay for Search :)

Anyway, hopefully my senior on the game, Tarianel, will like the work I've been doing. It's not been easy for me. For some reason the anaesthetic they gave me made my brain do some sort of meltdown, and my thoughts have been skewed for weeks. Kinda scary when you look at my history of mental health. Or lack of it. LOL. Gotta laugh. If I don't, who will?

Well, on a more lighthearted note, my daughter turns five on the 19th of March. Going to try and get to her party, but with knees and a long way to travel, who knows? FYI: my daughter doesnt live with my husband and I. Long story. I'll go into it another day. Nice of my parents to organise to have it at a place we can easily get to with no car of our own. That was sarcasm for those who missed. I'm looking forward to seeing her again, and I'm hoping we can have a nice time as a family. Be interesting to see how many of the parents realise who we actually are. :P

I think I'm done for now. Yes, I am. More later if I'm still awake later tonight.
