Writer's Block: Hair of the Dog

In advance of holiday excesses, let's review cures for the common hangover. Coffee, cheeseburgers, raw eggs, lemons and worcestershire sauce—what works? What doesn't?

I've heard, and it's been medically proven, that drinking as much water as possible is the best thing. Boring I know, and who would've thought water could cure (or even prevent) a hangover? But it makes sense when you think about how alcohol dehydrates you. If you're dehydrated, what do you do? Drink water!

Writer's Block: Meat Cake

Happy birthday, Humane Society of the United States! A staffer here at LJ loves her dog so much that she made her a meat cake for her birthday. What's the most elaborate (and possibly not justifiable to non-pet owners) thing you've ever done for your pet?

Turned the heater on, even though I wasn't cold, because one of my cats got caught out in the rain and came home looking very sorry for himself.

That's about as elaborate as it gets, sorry, pretty boring aren't I??

Writer's Block: Cryptozoology

Bigfoot, the Yeti, the Loch Ness Monster, el chupacabra—what is your favorite creature that may or may not exist?

The "Lithgow Panther". Apparently (and there have been recent sightings and reports to support it) there are one or more large black "cats" in the Blue Mountains and Lithgow areas of NSW, Australia. One theory is that they're offspring of some panthers that were released (accidentally or intentionally we don't know) from a circus years ago.

One thing though, I never went out by myself at night or let my cat roam at night when I was living in the Mountains. Just in case!

Birth announcement! (No, not mine!)

My friend who went a week overdue with her baby finally gave birth to a little girl in the early hours of Tuesday morning! She named her new baby Jenaya Catherine :) I'm absolutely buffed for the new mum and dad (first time parents) as they had trouble trying to conceive because of Amy's polycystic ovaries.

Congratulations Amy and Wayne, and welcome Jenaya!!!!

( I hope to be posting news of my own baby's arrival in the next few weeks....watch this space!)

I used to wear a silver ring, but on our first Valentines together I go it engraved for my partner with the words "Love is eternal" and a heart. I gave it to him as well as a bunch of his favourite flowers: purple orchids. He still wears the ring (8 years later) on a chain around his neck, and I later found out that my grandmother's wedding ring was engraved with the same sentiment I had engraved on our ring :)

Letter to my Life

Dear me,

Please start getting up at a decent hour. The way you sleep in all the time is really stuffing up my body clock and it's getting to the stage where staying awake during the day is becoming harder and harder.

Also, please start eating more regularly. We are trying to grow a baby here! No, that doesn't include regular snacking on Tim Tams and gummi worms. Cravings are understandable, but going to McDonalds three times last week is bordering on ridiculous.

What's this wearing PJ's until midday thing all about? I know you like to relax, but when friends show up and you're still padding around in flannelette, it's embarrassing!

Be nicer to the cats. They're only trying to be friendly when they're nudging you with their head, and back to the sleeping in thing, it's really not asking too much to get up at 7am to feed them and let them out for the day. You'd be doing us both a favour if you started running on kitty time.

Don't blame your husband for spending all the money when you do exactly the same thing given half the chance. I'm sure you noticed how quickly that massive pay you got the other week just disappeared in a flash. But thank you for not buying those shoes I noticed you eyeing off. Well done!

When the washing is dry, bring it in. It gets stiff if you leave it out for more than a few days and loses that freshly washed smell, not to mention it was nearly dry when it rained but you couldn't be bothered getting it as the weather turned bad.

Thanks!

Me

Yeah I'm in a weird mood today, and felt like posting something silly. It's one of those days where you feel at a loose end about what exactly you should be doing. Do I go out? Stay at home and watch tv? Cook lunch or grab an instant noodles? In the above letter to myself I mentioned some things that I've been doing lately that's annoying me and starting to become bad habits, so I thought I'd write it down so I can look back and think about it all. By the way, the job I've got nursing at the local nursing home? Totally in love with it! Granted longer shifts in the dementia wing leave alot to be desired but hey, it's work, and I'm finally doing what I studied so hard for 18 months ago.

Anyhoo, I'm going to go put some warmer clothes on. The snow they've been predicting feels like it's going to arrive soon!

Stay up until midnight, drinking cheap champagne, until the fireworks are over, and then kissing my hubby at midnight and falling into bed :)
